What are S.M.A.R.T Goals & How To Use Them

SMART is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound, and it’s a goal setting methodology for turning a dream into a goal.

Greg Reid said that “A dream written down with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes your dreams come true.”

Setting goals using SMART methodology not only helps you clearly articulate your goals, but it helps to determine the logistics of who, what, where, when, why and how those goals are going to become reality. For dreamers and visionaries, it’s really hard to make an action plan from a Big Idea. It’s an issue which leads to missed targets, low performance, and low morale. Oftentimes, leaders need to hire someone just for that purpose of managing the tactics and action items of the company's goals. Entrepreneurs and Solopreneurs don't always have that luxury.

I built our SMART Goal Workbook for entrepreneurs who need someone to ask them hard questions about their dreams and goals. Often we don’t have a business partner to bounce ideas off of, or to ensure that we’re in line with our Mission, Vision and Values. The SMART Goal Workbook offers that vital piece of business building.

Here’s the value of the SMART Goal Workbook:

  1. It asks you the right questions in order to set clearly defined goals.

  2. It provides and action plan with due dates and roles/responsibilities.

  3. It shows you what roadblocks are in your way and what you need to do to push through them.

  4. It encourages you to clearly articulate the purpose for this goal.

  5. You’ll see how long it will take to realistically achieve this goal.

  6. You’ll mine out the major milestones and their due dates

  7. You’ll know who is responsible for each action item.

  8. It will prompt your corresponding social media and marketing campaigns

  9. You get two full calendar years to populate milestones, metrics, and due dates.

  10. It gives clear instructions and examples on how to best use each sheet.

After using this Workbook, you'll clearly see how much time is needed, what resources are required, and what tactics and to-do's each person on your team should be tackling. It’s a valuable tool for entrepreneurs who need that boost, who need the accountability.
